Planting Design

A private family garden, West London. The clients wanted somewhere that evoked an Iranian courtyard, that was simple to maintain and encouraged butterflies

A planting design can be commissioned as part of a full garden design or as a separate project.

New planting schemes can fundamentally change the way you see and enjoy your garden.

By changing your planting you can make your garden reflect more of your personality, or give it a much stronger sense of place. New planting can also add interest to your garden throughout each season, and bring beneficial wildlife into your garden.

Our experience in low water and drought tolerant planting schemes ensures that your garden is manageable going into the future, and will look better with each passing year.

What you can expect

We will take a full brief, learning about the garden you envisage and gaining a better understanding of how you intend to use and enjoy the garden. During the site visit, we will look at soil conditions (heavy, free draining etc) and take samples for analysis of acidity and alkalinity.

If required, a full site survey can also be commissioned, either by us or by you, which will look at levels which can affect drainage, and will also ascertain if there are water or sewage pipes or electric cabling running underground in your garden that need to be moved or avoided.

A concept planting palette will be created and agreed on after discussions and your input and feedback.

Recommendations for any site changes will be made, for example, levelling, soil improvement, or the removal of existing plants. Again, we will revise and update our designs based on your comments and feedback.

A full planting plan is created, including a full list of the plants to be used, where they can be bought and some indicative costs.

We will write short and long term maintenance schedules that ensure that the design continues to provide pleasure and enjoyment for many years as the garden matures and changes over time.

We are based near Colchester in Essex, serving clients in Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and London.
